System Redesign
Design and Build

Roxbury Schools goes from electric to gas heat.

Boorom retrofitted all 300-unit ventilators at six sites in the Roxbury, New York school district’s electrical heating unit.

This inefficient and costly system was breaking the school’s heating budget. Boorom’s engineers designed a central modular gas fueled boiler plant, which operated at 91 percent efficiency and could be constructed off site to reduce on-site labor expenses. To further reduce costs, the unit ventilators were retrofitted with a powder coated lid extension with integral hot water coil and new discharge grilles. The $2 million projected exceeded initial savings estimates with an added bonus of greater classroom comfort.

The construction time estimate was 2 years. The project was completed in 18 months. The school realized a 3-year payback with warm and comfortable classrooms.

Roxbury Schools

Roxbury School’s electric heating unit ventilators in six of their schools were crippling the schools heating budget.

The challenge was to retro fit all 300 unit ventilators at six sites and install a central boiler plant at each, and do it cost effective. Boorom designed a central modular gas fueled boiler plant which operated at 91% efficiency and could be constructed off site thereby reducing onsite labor expense. To further reduce costs the unit ventilators were retrofitted with a powder coated lid extension with integral hot water coil and new discharge grilles. The $2 million project exceeded initial savings estimates with an added bonus of greater classroom comfort. Construction time frame of 2 years was completed in 18 months. The school realized a 3 year payback—with class rooms which were warm and comfortable.
